BMW M4 CSL Teased, Will Debut Later This Year To Celebrate Brand’s 50th Anniversary

BMW M has apparently teased the upcoming M4 CSL in their “Huddle Speech” video.

Released to celebrate the brand’s 50th anniversary, the clip showcases BMW M models past, present, and future.

While there’s no mistaking the XM concept, BMW Blog spotted the M4 CSL 38 seconds into the video. It’s easy to overlook, but the model features a distinctive ducktail rear spoiler.

Little else can be seen in the video, but previous spy photos have revealed the M4 CSL will also be distinguished by a unique grille and a prominent front splitter. Prototypes have also been spotted with lightweight wheels that are backed up by a high-performance braking system with bronze calipers. We can also expect a sportier suspension and a handful of lightweight components.

The updates will continue in the cabin as buyers will find lightweight sport seats with carbon fiber trim as well as illuminated M4 badging. The rear seats, on the other hand, will be removed and replaced by carpeting as well as sizable “CSL” lettering.

The biggest mystery remains performance specifications, but the standard model has a twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 473 hp (352 kW / 479 PS) and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque. The M4 Competition ups the output to 503 hp (375 kW / 510 PS) and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque, and it’s natural to assume the M4 CSL will be even more powerful. How much more powerful remains unclear, but rumors have suggested we could be looking at around 540 hp (397 kW / 547 PS).

Regardless of the final number, the model is expected to be offered exclusively with rear-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Of course, we’ll find out full details when the M4 CSL debuts later this year.
