Michael Schumacher is unquestionably one of the greatest drivers to ever grace the Formula 1 paddock and one of the cars he drove in the 1998 season has now hit the market.

The F1 car in question is the Ferrari F300 driven by Schumacher at the 1998 Luxemburg Grand Prix and at the Japanese Grand Prix where he was forced to retire after a tire failure. Had it not been for the tire failure, he could have won that year’s championship.

The car has been listed up for sale via duPont Registry but no details have been given about its ownership history. What we do know is that it has an asking price of $4.9 million, a rather high sum when you consider that the F2002 that Schumacher drove to three race victories and the 2002 F1 World Driver’s Championship sold for $6.6 million back in late 2019.

Powering the 1998 Ferrari F300 in question was a 3.0-liter naturally-aspirated V10 pumping out approximately 800 hp. Schumacher claimed six race victories behind the wheel of various F300 models throughout the season and ultimately finished second in the world championship behind McLaren’s Mika Hakkinen. The F300 also helped Ferrari claim second in the constructors’ championship that year.

It remains unclear how this example has been stored since it was retired from racing and if it is still drivable. Nevertheless, there’s no doubt that the car will trade hands for a lot of money, even if we think the $4.9 million asking price is a little too high considering this car’s lack of race victories.
