Here’s How Much A 2022 Subaru WRX Will Cost You If You Select Every Single Option

The new 2022 WRX has split opinions for a whole host of different reasons, the least of which is the fact that the base price of the GT trim costs more than the outgoing STI. Now that Subaru has released the configurator we’ve tacked on every single option to find out how much one could spend and boy is it a lot of green.

Subaru starts the new WRX at just $30,100 which is more than last year but only by $1,680. That’s not too much of a penalty considering the all-new nature of this sports sedan. What’s wild is that the aforementioned GT trim starts at a lofty $42,890. As mentioned, that’s more expensive than the outgoing STI despite the fact that the GT is less powerful and only comes with a CVT.

So here’s how we attacked the issue of seeing just how ridiculous pricing of the new WRX could get. We priced out the Limited trim and did the same thing with the GT just to see if it was possible to pay more for a loaded Limited. The latter gets a lot more standard tech so our total options list was a bit shorter. Nevertheless, both ended up being more than $50,000 when all was said and done.

For the Limited, we got classic World Rally Blue Pearl, a no-cost option, and selected black “Ultrasuede” for the interior. We also added the CVT since it’s a $2,250 option. Remember, the goal is to see how silly this can get.

To those features, we added every available option or accessory in the entire Subaru catalog. It wasn’t all just fluff though. We spent $374.95 on an auto-dimming mirror with a compass and Homelink as well as a further $1,200 on STI Performance mufflers. In the end, we had two full pages of optional extras with a grand total of $52,312.

Shockingly, the GT can get even more expensive despite the fact that it comes with considerably more technology as standard equipment. Once we did the same trick with it, we came away with $55,638.

It used to be that the WRX was a serious performance bargain and the STI was just downright rude to much more expensive metal. At this rate, the new STI might cost as much as a mid-engine C8 Corvette. In other words, a bargain no more.
