Hagerty Brings RADwood Event Brand Under Its Wings

Hagerty announced this week the purchase of the RADwood event brand, adding that the event’s founders, Art Cervantes and Warren Madsen, are staying on board.

RADwood is a series of car shows focusing on vehicles from the ’80s and ’90s and the wider automotive lifestyle of that era. Hagerty says that it will be taking over the running of shows with the help of the founders and expanding the experience.

Under the wings of Hagerty, RADwood will continue to organize standalone shows in which participants dress in period clothing while period-correct music is played over the speakers. In addition, Hagerty will promote the RADwood brand at major shows, including The Amelia, Detroit Concours d’Elegance, and the Greenwich Concours d’Elegance in order to create ways for more enthusiasts to enjoy the era’s vehicles.

“Gen X-ers and millennials are drawn to the cars and culture of their childhood, and they represent the majority of our new members,” said McKeel Hagerty, CEO of Hagerty. “From Members Only jackets to t-topped Z Cars and Firebirds, the nostalgia of the ’80s resonates with me personally. Rolling onto the RADwood show field is about as close as you can get to traveling back in time.”

Created in 2017 as an event for friends in the San Francisco Bay area, the show quickly grew thanks to the growing interest in classics from the ’80s and ’90s as well as the power of social media. Just two years later, RADwood was hosting 10 shows a year around the U.S.

“As a lifestyle brand that celebrates automotive culture, we are beyond stoked to join the Hagerty team,” said Art Cervantes, co-founder and CEO of RADwood. “We’ve been partners for years now and we know this will be a very natural transition for us. The Hagerty team are car people through-and-through, and we are very aligned in our passion for preserving the enjoyment of cars for generations to come.”

The next RADwood event will take place on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.
