New Genesis X Speedium Coupe Debuts As A Stylish, Electric GT Concept

Genesis knows the quickest way to an enthusiasts’ heart is with a sports car and they’re bound to delight fans with the new X Speedium Coupe.

Essentially an evolution of last year’s X concept, the Genesis X Speedium Coupe is designed to preview the styling language that will be found on future electric vehicles from the Korean luxury brand.

While the concept is instantly recognizable, it adopts a fully enclosed version of the company’s Crest grille. That isn’t the only change as the quad lighting units are now connected by daytime running lights to further enhance the shape of the grille. The design may take some getting used to, but Genesis said it “carries an EV face that symbolizes Genesis’ transformation towards becoming an all-electric car brand with a six-model lineup by 2030.”

The rest of the concept is pretty evolutionary, but we can see new wheels that are backed up by ventilated discs and yellow-green calipers. The Genesis X Speedium Coupe also has a long double bubble roof and a more expansive greenhouse that is reminiscent of fastbacks, if not shooting brakes. Elsewhere, there’s a ducktail rear spoiler and a more aggressive bumper with a diffuser.

Genesis didn’t go into specifics, but chief creative officer Luc Donckerwolke said “This car is an open-door moment in Genesis’ journey towards our future EV design.” The world renowned designer added, “This isn’t a show car — it’s a look into our design processes as we explore ideas for the next wave of EVs, one that incorporates Genesis’ DNA.”

Genesis GV60 Reservations Now Open

Besides unveiling the Genesis X Speedium Coupe, the automaker announced plans to begin accepting reservations for the GV60. Interested customers can visit Genesis.com and enroll in Priority One to “curate a personalized purchase experience” for the brand’s first dedicated electric vehicle.

After leaving their contact information and a $500 refundable deposit, a Genesis Concierge will reach out to customers and match them with a local dealership. However, there’s a big caveat as Genesis Priority One will only be available in California, Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York for a limited time while quantities last.

As a refresher, the GV60 is based on the E-GMP platform and features a 77.4 kWh battery pack as well as three powertrains. The rear-wheel drive variant has 225 hp (168 kW / 228 PS) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque, while the all-wheel drive model has two electric motors that produce a combined output of 314 hp (234 kW / 318 PS) and 446 lb-ft (605 Nm) of torque. Customers can also opt for a performance variant which has a dual motor all-wheel drive system with 429 hp (320 kW / 435 PS) and 446 lb-ft (605 Nm) of torque.
