Suzuki’s RAV4-Based Across PHEV Gets Small Upgrades For 2022

It doesn’t seem like too long ago but Suzuki introduced the Across in 2020, but the time has come for the plug-in hybrid SUV to receive some technology and equipment upgrades. The rebadged Toyota RAV4 with a Suzuki face can now be recharged at a faster rate, while it got new features like LED lights all around.

Starting with the most important upgrade, the Across now comes standard with a 6 kW onboard AC charger (up from 3 kW). This reduces charging time from 5.30 hours to 2.45 hours in a 32A rapid charger. Home charging at a 16A facility is reduced by 36 minutes to less than 5 hours.

Besides charging its battery faster, the Across will also charge your phone faster since the USB ports have been upgraded from type A to the latest type C. Efficiency is incrementally improved by the addition of LED lights in the fog lamps, headlights, rear cabin light, and cargo space light. Finally, the overhead console switches and the mirror controls are now illuminated for ease of use in the dark. The exterior remains identical but buyers can now choose any of the six available colors (metallic or pearlescent) at no extra charge.

The Suzuki Across is available with the same plug-in hybrid system as the RAV4 Prime. This consists of a 2.5-liter engine and electric motors producing a combined 302 hp (225 kW / 306 PS) sent to all four wheels through the E-Four AWD system. The front-mounted electric motor alone produces 180 hp (134 kW / 182 PS) and 270 Nm (199 lb-ft) of torque, offering adequate performance in EV mode. The floor-mounted 18.1 kWh lithium-ion battery allows an electric-only range of up to 46.6 miles (75 km).
