For its latest test on public roads, the Ioniq 6 appear to don a new rear bumper with modified lighting elements. The vehicle may be a sign of the evolution that is occurring during the development of the upcoming EV.
This latest Ioniq 6 prototype seems to be wearing the same camouflage that we’ve seen the car testing in previously, but a new detail is now visible. Below the brake lights, a new vertical streak appears in these shots. These may simply be reflectors but with Hyundai EV design being led with lighting, the update hints at evolutionary changes happening to the sedan.
The Ioniq 6 was previewed by the Prophecy concept and will be a swooping, streamlined sedan that features the parametric pixel LED lighting first shown on the Ioniq 5 hatchback. These are particularly visible in the taillights of the vehicle seen driving on public roads here.

When Hyundai confirmed that the car would go into production, it revealed that it would be based on its eGMP platform shared with the Ioniq 5, among others, and would feature a 73 kWh battery pack. That will enable the Ioniq 6 to offer a number of powertrain options, including a single-motor version that offers 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS) and a dual-motor version producing 308 hp (230 kW / 313 PS).

The Korean automaker is targeting a range of a little over 300 miles (482 km) for the svelte sedan, which may be helped by its shape if it’s as slippery as it looks. The Ioniq 6 will be followed by an electric SUV with seating for seven aimed at families called the Ioniq 7.
The model is expected to make its debut later this year and will be the brand’s electric counterpoint to the Sonata.
