QUICK ANSWER

On Windows, Mac, or Linux devices, click on your profile icon in the upper right corner of the app, and from the menu that drops down, click on Check for Updates. On Android and iOS devices, use your respective app store to update Zoom. If there is no Update button on the app page (or if Zoom is not on Apple’s Updates list), no update is necessary.

If you are using a Windows or Mac desktop or laptop, you have two options for keeping your Zoom app updated. You can set your Zoom app to update automatically by clicking on your profile icon in the upper right corner, and choosing Settings. Then, making sure you are in General on the left-hand sidebar, there should be a section on the right called Zoom Updates and below that, a check box for Automatically keep Zoom desktop client up to date.

When you check the box, a small drop-down menu will appear directly below, giving you the choice between slow or fast update channels. The slow channel will update the app less often, but will maintain stability in the app better than the fast update channel, which will deliver every update as it becomes available. Choose a channel and close the Settings menu. Your Zoom app will now update automatically. (This method is unavailable to Linux users.)

The second option is to manually check for updates. Click on the profile icon in the upper right again, and from the profile menu, click on Check for Updates. Either an update will begin to download and install, or you will get a message that your Zoom app is up to date.

On an Android device, you would use the Google Play store to keep your Zoom app updated. Search for Zoom in the Play store, and on the app’s page, there will be an Update button next to its name if an update is available. If the button says Open, no update is necessary.

If you’re using Zoom on an iPad or an iPhone, the Apple App Store is where you’ll go to keep it updated. When you open the store, the menu bar at the bottom of the screen has a choice for Updates. If you click on the Updates icon, you will see Zoom listed there if an update is called for. There will be an Update button right beside it. If you do not see Zoom on your Updates list (such as in the screenshot above), you are already up to date.

FAQs

Zoom can be set to automatically update if you are using it on a Windows or Mac device.

You can probably get away with not installing every single Zoom update. However, the further out of date your app falls, the more likely it is that problems will occur. Also, some updates are mandatory (you will not be able to use the app without updating).
