Chris Harris And The Stig Go All-Out In The Maserati MC20

Top Gear season 32 has just one episode left to air and of the performance cars tested throughout the series, the Maserati MC20 has been the most impressive.

Unlike so many other modern sports cars and supercars that are launching as either hybrids or are all-electric, the MC20 is currently only available with a petrol engine. Not only that but Maserati went to the trouble of designing a new 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 from the ground up, using Formula 1 technology and slotting it into one of the most beautiful cars it has ever designed.

While the full Chris Harris review of the MC20 has yet to be posted to YouTube, a shortened version of the review has been shared and shows the journalist hooning the car around the famous Top Gear test track. He is full of praise for the MC20, noting just how quick it is in a straight line and just how precise it is in the corners.

The Stig then had the opportunity to set a hot lap in the car. Unfortunately, it was raining at the time of the test so it was impossible to explore the car’s full potential. In fact, onboard footage of the lap shows the Maserati routinely spinning up the rear wheels through third and fourth gears whenever Top Gear’s tamed racing driver was trying to put the power to the ground. In the wet, it lapped the circuit in 1:30.4.

However, Top Gear did set a lap in the MC20 when the track had dried up. It lapped the circuit in an impressive 1:16.6, which is 0.2 seconds faster than a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport and 0.1 seconds slower than an Aventador. At the same time, though, it is quite a lot slower than the likes of the hardcore Ferrari 488 Pista with its 1:12.7 and the McLaren 675LT with a time of 1:13.7.
