The Lucid Air Was The Fastest Production Car At This Year’s Goodwood Hillclimb

The Lucid Air has yet to reach the hands of customers in the UK but during the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the car manufacturer brought along one to race up the famed hillclimb.

The Air featured in this video is the Grand Touring Performance. This is the first variant to launch after the limited-run Dream Edition quickly sold out in the United States, although a Dream Edition will also be offered throughout Europe.

Powering the Air Grand Touring Performance are a pair of electric motors that combine to deliver 1,050 hp and 921 lbb-ft (1,250 Nm) of torque. While that means it has slightly less power than the Dream Edition Performance with its 1,111 hp, it is still extraordinarily quick.

As a matter of fact, Ben Collins was able to storm up the hillclimb in just 50.79 seconds in the Air Grand Touring Performance. That made it the quickest production car competing in the Hillclimb Timed Shootout and placing it 12th overall.

“This stunning result for the Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which features some of the world’s fastest cars, is yet another proof point of the prowess of Lucid’s proprietary powertrain technology,” Lucid chief executive and chief technology officer Peter Rawlinson said after the event.

While CarWow’s Mat Watson wasn’t behind the wheel for his first taste of the Lucid Air, he did jump into the passenger seat with Collins driving and went for a quick blast.

Lucid has not yet announced European pricing details for the Air Grand Touring. However, we do know that the flagship Dream Edition will start at €218,000 (~$230,000) in Germany, €222,000 (~$234,000) in the Netherlands, CHF199,000 (~$200,000) in Switzerland, and NOK1,850,000 (~$190,000) in Norway.
