Zyrus Engineering Is Making An Over-The-Top Carbon Body Kit For VW’s ID. Buzz

Known for its extreme projects, Zyrus Engineering offers modifications for the Lamborghini Huracán, the Porsche Taycan, and now a Volkswagen van.

To be fair, the ID. Buzz isn’t just any old Volkswagen. The all-electric van was inspired by the beloved Type 2 microbus, so it was always set to be adopted by enthusiasts, and Zyrus Engineering’s CEO, Radni Molhampour, says that he just wanted to create an entertaining body kit for the EV.

“We are a fun loving company and we like to be different, so we offered this concept to a few of our customers who already pre-ordered the car and now signed up for the kit we co-designed with BlackfishDesign, and we thought it would be a great idea to launch it worldwide as it is such a cool concept for our Z Buzz,” he said. “Daily driving to school or getting groceries needn’t be a boring mission ever again, we have bought one ourselves and we are super excited, my daughter loves it.”

The kit that’s previewed through a series of renderings here includes a front fender with a full splitter that is accentuated with side winglets for added downforce. The side skirts, meanwhile, offer a “dropped” look that adds to the aerodynamic feel of the van. The company says that the side skirts could even add some range to the ID. Buzz by making it slipperier.

At the back, meanwhile, the EV gets a spoiler and a diffuser, both made of carbon fiber so as not to add too much weight. In fact, all of these parts are made of 100 percent prepreg carbon fiber, including the 22-inch carbon fiber ZWheels with carbon aerodiscs that are available separately.

Every part is handcrafted and bespoke to fit the ID. Buzz. Zyrus says that customers can choose from a high-gloss or matte finish for the aero elements. Buyers can also opt to have them color-matched to the paint on their van.

Electric mobility need not be boring with this new carbon fiber kit, the design promotes a fun identity and uniqueness in the daily drive,” the company writes.

Pricing for the “Z Buzz” kit starts at €11,900 ($12,277 USD at current exchange rates) and the wheels add another €4,999 ($5,157 USD) to the price. All of the parts will be available to purchase separately starting in early 2023.
