Bollinger Reveals Electric Cab-Forward Truck With Up To 200 Miles Of Range

Bollinger today revealed the B4, an all-electric Class 4 fleet truck that differs greatly from its previous vehicles’ design. With cab-forward styling, modular batteries, and a solid rear-axle e-drive, it’s set to help fleets haul with green power.

“The cab-forward design is a radical change from our previous concepts,” says Robert Bollinger, founder and CEO of Bollinger Motors. “And that’s on purpose. We listened to our commercial customers and developed what they need for ultimate efficiency.”

According to Bollinger, not only does the design allow it to maximize downward visibility in front and cargo space behind the cab, it also allows for a remarkably tight turning circle.

“The B4’s 41-foot turning circle will be better than any comparable wheelbase truck – which will improve driving dynamics in both rural and urban settings,” said Kent Harrison, chief product officer at Bollinger Motors.

The actual drive power will be delivered by a solid rear-axle e-drive to handle the high payloads of a Class 4 truck. The high-voltage components, meanwhile, operate on an 800-volt platform with lithium iron phosphate batteries. Depending on customer needs, the B4 can be fitted with either one or two batteries, each of which, it says, offers around 100 miles (161 km) of range.

According to Bollinger, the B4 will be eligible for the newly announced 45W Commercial EV Tax Credit. It expects the truck to get a 30 percent tax incentive under the program, which could be worth up to $40,000.

Bollinger previously released the B1 and B2 SUV and pickup, as well as the Deliver-E, which was based on its electric Chass-E. It says that it will now begin production of the B4, and plans to follow it with heavier duty Class 5 and Class 6 trucks in the near future.

“Bollinger Motors has been developing medium duty all-electric trucks since 2015,” says Bryan Chambers, chief operating officer of Bollinger Motors. “Our extensive Class 4-6 engineering and supply-chain development means our commercial trucks are on the fast track to production.”

More precise timing on that fast-track is not yet available, however, Bollinger says that it will reveal prices and release dates for the B4 soon.
