The electrification trend is rapidly expanding in the light commercial vehicle segment, with more and more automakers unveiling EV-only vans. The latest example is Renault, adding another member to their E-Tech commercial vehicle range, the production-ready Trafic Van E-Tech Electric.
The model is based on the existing fourth-generation Trafic that premiered in 2020. From the outside, it looks identical to its ICE-powered sibling, with the exception of the E-Tech badge on the tailgate. Likewise, it is available in two different lengths, either 5,080 mm (200 inches) or 5,480 mm (215.7 inches) long, and two different heights, either 1,967 mm (77.4 inches) or 2,498 mm (98.3 inches) tall. Depending on the configuration, the cargo volume ranges between 5.8-8.9 cubic meters (204.8-314.3 cubic feet), while a cab-floor variant is also available for conversions.

The electric powertrain comprises a single motor producing 121 hp (90 kW / 122 PS), which is slightly more than the entry-level diesel. Towing capacity is 750 kg (1,654 pounds) and the maximum load is 1,100 kg (2,425 pounds). The Trafic Van E-Tech Electric is sharing the 52 kWh battery with the recently updated Master E-Tech, allowing for a WLTP range of 240 km (149 miles). The battery can charge via a 7kW AC, a 22kW AC, or an optional 50 kW DC fast charger.
The EV version of the Trafic Van is expected to be followed by the equivalent passenger-friendly Trafic which was previewed in 2021 with the Hippie Caviar Hotel camper concept. This year, Renault unveiled the slightly smaller Hippie Caviar Motel concept, based on the long-wheelbase Kango E-Tech Electric that also made its public debut at Hanover.
