TL;DR

  • Samsung reportedly wants an earlier release for the Galaxy S23 series.
  • The S22 series launched on February 9 and went on sale on February 25.
  • This suggests a potential January launch, if not sooner.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S22 series in February, being one of the first widely available flagship phones of the year. Now, a Korean news outlet has claimed that we could be in for an earlier launch.

ETNews reports that Samsung is eyeing an early release for the Galaxy S23 series. The outlet didn’t issue a specific release window but claims that Samsung wants the S23 phones to be released “sooner compared to its predecessor.”

Supply chain partners predicted that the S23 series release date could be two to three weeks earlier than usual, the outlet added. For what it’s worth, the Galaxy S22 series was unveiled on February 9 and went on sale on February 25. In other words, that would mean a January launch for the new phones and/or an early February sale date.

In saying so, we’ve previously seen some brands like Xiaomi and Motorola launch new-generation flagships in December. However, these launches were restricted to China, meaning production isn’t as big a hurdle to overcome as it would’ve been for a global launch. And Samsung typically prefers global releases for its high-end phones.

In any event, the news also comes a day after the first apparent Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus renders appeared online. The images show similar designs and sizes albeit with Ultra-style camera housings.
