Alpine A110 R Shows Top Speed And Acceleration Figures Prior To Its Debut

The Alpine A110 R is coming on October 4 as the most radical version of the mid-engined sportscar, and before we lay eyes on it, the French automaker showed its performance credentials in two short video teasers.

As shown in the videos, the A110 R accelerates from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of 285 km/h (177 mph). Both of those figures are improved compared to the lesser variants, making it the quickest and fastest A110 yet. More specifically, in terms of the standard 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint, the A110 R is 0.3 seconds quicker than the GT and the S trims, and 0.6 seconds quicker than the entry-level Pure. Also, the A110 R’s top speed is 35 km/h (22 mph) higher than the A110 GT’s and 25 km/h (16 mph) higher than the A110 S’s.

In both teasers we get to see the horsepower and torque ratings on the digital instrument cluster, showing that the mid-mounted turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine will produce the same 296 hp (221 kW / 300 PS) and 340 Nm (251 lb-ft) as in the A110 GT and A110 S. This means that the improved performance has to do with the lower weight and the engine/gearbox setup.

In the previous teaser, Alpine revealed that the A110 R will feature a redesigned bodykit including a splitter, a vented bonnet, extended side sills, a larger diffuser, and a fixed rear wing. Furthermore, a set of lighter alloy wheels, upgraded brakes, and retuned suspension will contribute to sharper handling. The latest videos reveal more of the exterior design, showing us the quad exhaust pipes on the diffuser, the aero-style alloy wheels, the red brake calipers, and the carbon fiber treatment on the version-specific engine cover. Finally, we get to see the blue exterior shade which is typical of Alpine’s branding.

The reveal of the Alpine A110 R is just around the corner, so stay tuned for more information.
