Volkswagen introduced an assortment of vehicles for SEMA yesterday, but the company saved the best for last as they’ve unveiled a new Jetta GLI Performance concept.
Designed to celebrate the “GTI with a trunk,” the concept is based on the Jetta GLI Autobahn and takes the model to extremes.
That’s immediately clear after looking at the car, which has been equipped with a widebody kit that features ventilated fenders that are 0.8 inches (20 mm) wider than normal. The aggressive look is further reinforced by a custom front bumper, which has larger intakes as well as traditional red accents.

Designers didn’t stop there as the concept has sporty side skirts, a dual exhaust system, and a custom wrap that transitions from matte black to Kings Red Metallic. The latter design is echoed on the 20-inch Rotiform wheels, which feature custom aerodiscs as well as summer performance tires. While the latter stand out due to their appearance, they’re also notable for being backed up by a RacingLine Stage 3+ big brake kit that features six-piston calipers that grab onto 15 inch (381 mm) carbon ceramic discs.
Looks are only part of the equation as the concept has been outfitted with underbody braces as well as a RacingLine TrackSport coil-over suspension kit. The latter features a “coil-over rear spring/damper, a ‘thick stem’ inverted front damper, lightweight aluminum bodies, 2.4 inch (61 mm) linear springs with helpers, and fully-adjustable solid top mounts.” Volkswagen says the kit delivers a trackworthy suspension that is also at home on the street.
The upgrades extend to the engine compartment as the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder has been equipped with a RacingLine performance package, a carbon fiber cold-air intake, an upgraded intercooler, and an oil management kit with an oil cooler. Thanks to these modifications, the engine produces an impressive 350 hp (261 kW / 355 PS) and 372 lb-ft (503 Nm) of torque, which is an increase of 122 hp (91 kW / 124 PS) and 114 lb-ft (154 Nm).
Volkswagen declined to say how fast the concept is, but the engine is paired to a six-speed manual that sends power to the front wheels. That setup should please the purists, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it causes torque steer to rear its ugly head.
While that remains to be seen, drivers will find supportive Recaro Pole Position seats with integrated headrests as well as heavy bolstering. That’s to be expected but, the seats feature two-tone upholstery with a custom Texagon design.
