Daily Authority: 📖 A library in your pocket

An Amazon Kindle 2022 blends in among books on an owners bookshelf.

📚 Good day, and welcome to the Daily Authority! It’s slowly warming up on my side of the world, and we took full advantage of the spring weather this weekend. If you also like sunning yourself while enjoying a book, you might consider the new Amazon Kindle (2022).

The Kindle has long been the e-reader of choice for voracious bookworms, but the latest budget model is now better than ever. AA’s Kaitlyn Cimino has been using one for the past few weeks. Here are her impressions.

Tiny but powerful

  • Kindles aren’t known for being impressive computing machines, but that’s not their purpose.
  • They can cram a bookshelf in a pocket, and that’s precisely where the Amazon Kindle (2022) excels.
  • It measures 6.2-inches, which makes it easy to tuck away into hoodie pockets, slim bags, and your carry-on.
  • That’s still pretty small as far as screens go, but its compact size makes it much more convenient.
  • The Kindle (2022) also weighs just 158 grams, making it no heavier than the average novel.
  • Beyond its tiny size, the device packs great value for the book lover.

Text and audio

  • For those upgrading from the Kindle Paperwhite (2021), you’re now getting 16GB of storage instead of 8GB.
  • That’s great for storing more books for longer travel spells, but it’s a boon for audiobook lovers, too.
  • The increased storage also means you can seamlessly pivot to an audiobook while you doze off without sacrificing too much storage space.
  • Kaitlyn also found that the additional storage enhances the send PDF functionality.
  • “Using the unique email provided by Amazon, I’ve sent everything from trip itineraries to a maid of honor speech draft to my Kindle.”
  • The Kindle (2022) now uses USB-C for charging.
  • This charges the battery in two hours if you use a 9W charger and lasts more than a month if you’re reading just 30 minutes daily.
  • Finally, dark mode is now available on the Kindle (2022), making for a much better reading experience for sore eyes.

Is the Kindle (2022) worth it?

  • In a word, yes!
  • At $99, the Kindle (2022) offers great value for those upgrading or seeking their first e-reader.
  • It remains a basic Kindle, however. It lacks buttons, and you don’t get any water resistance rating like pricier models.
  • However, as a base model, it’s an excellent device to gift the bookworm in your life or to keep in your own locker.

Monday Meme: Elon Umbridge

Let’s finish off today with a giggle.

When Elon Musk finally bought Twitter last month, I don’t think the sense of foreboding was too strong. Now that we’ve seen mass layoffs and plans to change how verification works, some users are likening the new principal of Twitter to another headmaster who loved doling out decrees…
