Lucid has provided us with our first look at a close-to-production version of the Gravity, its first-ever SUV. Although the automaker still has much to reveal, it promises that the seven-seat crossover will have ‘supercar-like performance’ and more range than any other electric vehicle on the market, aside from the Lucid Air.
“Gravity builds upon everything we have achieved thus far, driving further advancements of our in-house technology to create a luxury performance SUV like none other,” said Peter Rawlinson, CEO and CTO, Lucid Group. “Just as Lucid Air redefined the sedan category, so too will Gravity impact the world of luxury SUVs, setting new benchmarks across the board.”
Official figures for the Gravity have yet to be revealed, but in its highest-performance guise, the three-motor Lucid Air Sapphire edition makes over 1,200 hp (895 kW/1,217 PS). The slightly less powerful Air Grant Touring, meanwhile, can go up to 516 miles (830 km) on a charge.

Lucid has yet to release official specifications about how big the SUV’s battery pack is, but with seating for up to seven adults, it stands to reason that the automaker will be able to stuff more cells under the Gravity to get it to go as far as the Air, despite the presumed extra weight that comes with that size.
In addition to being able to seat seven people, the automaker says the new SUV will employ the “Lucid Space Concept,” which will allow for flexible seating options. That means that the Gravity will be able to be oriented for five, six, or seven adults, with two- and three-row options available.
It will also feature some new tech, with what the automaker calls its “next-generation” Glass Cockpit high-resolution displays. These are powered by an updated Lucid UX software interface.
“I’m so thrilled with the results we are seeing with Lucid Gravity, sparing no opportunity to build on everything we learned with Lucid Air to create something that warps the vehicle-class continuum,” said Derek Jenkins, Senior Vice President, Design, Lucid Group. “It is both a supercar in disguise and an SUV with flexible passenger and cargo space that seems impossibly big relative to the exterior size of the vehicle. And it does this all with Lucid’s distinctive post-luxury design, inspired by California.”
Lucid says that it will reveal more information about its upcoming SUV in early 2023, when reservations for the SUV open. Those reservers will have to wait until 2024 to get the new model, whose final design and specifications are still being finalized. Availability for markets outside the U.S. and Canada will be revealed at a later date.
