2023 Ford Ranger Platinum Debuts In Australia As The Most Expensive Trim Besides The Raptor

Ford Australia has launched a new Platinum trim for the Ranger that slots between the Wildtrack and the Raptor with more premium looks and features. Just like the closely-related Ford Everest Platinum SUV, the pickup has pretty generous standard equipment and is exclusively offered with the 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel.

The new trim is visually distinguished by the unique chrome-infused grille, the Platinum lettering on the bonnet, the standard Matrix LED headlights, the 20-inch alloy wheels, the silk chrome accents, and the version-specific Equinox Bronze exterior shade that is available as an option. There are also a few practicality traits like Ford’s new Flexible Rack System featuring folding roof racks and a patented sliding load rack, a power roller shutter, and a damped tailgate with gas struts.

Inside, we find plenty of premium features for the segment, including the quilted leather upholstery, the faux wood accents on the dashboard, the heated steering wheel, and the heated and ventilated front seats with 10-way power adjustments and memory functions for the driver.

The dashboard has a closed shelf and upper glovebox, differentiating from lesser Ford Ranger trims. Furthermore, the Platinum emblem can be found on the glovebox, seats, and floor mats. In terms of technology, the 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster and the 12-inch touchscreen for the infotainment are also standard, together with a B&O premium sound system.

The pickup is exclusively offered with the 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel producing 247 hp (184 kW / 250 PS) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque. Power is transmitted to all four wheels through the 10-speed automatic gearbox and Ford’s electronically controlled full-time 4WD system.

The 2023 Ford Ranger Platinum is available to order in Australia priced at AU $76,990 (US $51,927) full-spec, with the first deliveries expected in May 2023. This means it is AU $5,800 (US $3,992) more expensive than the Ranger Wildtrack with the same engine/gearbox combination. Still, the Ranger Platinum is AU $9,800 (US $6,610) cheaper than the rugged Raptor flagship which comes with a more powerful twin-turbo V6 and heavy-duty suspension.
