Formula E Is Coming To Portland, Oregon, For The First Time Ever In 2023

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship announced today that it will hold a race in Portland, Oregon, in 2023. The E-Prix will be the only one held in America for the racing series’ upcoming season.

The race in Portland will be the 12th in a 16-race season that will travel the globe. It will be held on June 24, but a track layout has not yet been released by the all-electric racing series.

“We are excited to bring the premier electric motorsport world championship to Portland for the first time in June next year. There is a big, passionate fan base for professional sports in the city, together with strong ecological credentials, which makes Portland a perfect host for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship,” said Alberto Longo, Formula E’s chief championship officer. “The USA remains an important market for Formula E. We are delighted to maintain that critical presence and engage a new audience in the Pacific Northwest region in all-electric motorsport.”

Indeed, Formula E has raced in the United States in almost all nine of the championship’s seasons. The country was only missed in the COVID-19-affected sixth season, when travel was significantly restricted. New York City, Long Beach, and Miami, are the other American cities that have hosted E-Prixs.

This season, Portland will be joined by São Paulo, Brazil, Cape Town, South Africa, and Hyderabad, India, as new additions to the calendar. In all, Formula E will visit 11 cities as part of 2023’s 16-round calendar.

It will be a season of firsts, as the sport also welcomes McLaren and Maserati to the grid. It will also be the premier season for the third-generation Formula E racecar. Newly designed, it will be the lightest, fastest, most powerful, and most efficient electric racecar ever built, according to the sport’s organizers.
