It’s easy to get caught up in the idea of owning a supercar or a hardcore track-capable sports car of one sort or another but there’s one big drawback of both. Neither one usually offers supreme comfort and sometimes, that’s all we really want when behind the wheel. With that in mind, what’s the most comfortable car you’ve ever had?

Somewhat obviously, most newer cars are well-equipped if not mostly focused on comfort above other features. Whether it comes down to seating or features, new cars are full of things that make the ride more enjoyable. That point was recently driven home to us by a 2022 Lexus GX that despite having a chassis and suspension that was designed more than a decade ago, rode like a dream. The Kia Carnival in our opening photo demonstrates it too.

Still, it’s not unusual to find older models that are still exceptionally comfortable. I personally think my two previous BMWs were probably the most comfortable I’ve ever owned. The first, a 1989 750iL was a glorious V12 masterpiece with self-leveling rear shocks and a highly compliant ride.

More recently, I had an E60 535i with the Sport package. It was a little less soft but featured excellent sport seats with adjustable side bolsters. It fit me like a glove and was so comfortable that long road trips never left me feeling sore or tired due to the seating. The Ford Flex that I drive now is comfortable, sure, but nowhere near as nice as my old BMWs.

Having driven a great many cars in my life I’m willing to bet that we’re going to have a number of votes for used Lexus and Toyota models. No, they don’t always have the super-specific seat adjustability found on other brands but many offer amazing ride comfort.
