Nissan will be presenting a new GT-R for 2024 later today, and its party may (or may not) have been rained on, as photos have been published early allegedly showing the car, albeit still mostly covered by a plastic wrap.

We’ve yet to confirm though that the photos shared on the Facebook account GTRotaku.com and myriad other social media sites such as on Twitter actually depict the 2024 GT-R or a tuned version of the existing 2022MY / 2023MY GT-R, be that from Nissan, one of its subsidiaries such as NISMO or an unrelated aftermarket tuner, as this is the Tokyo Auto Salon after all.

Regardless, under the cover, the model appears to have a new, very straight body kit underlined by a red line. At the back, meanwhile, the bumper has been extended and also straightened by carbon fiber additions – softly bringing to mind the legendary Ferrari F40. They contain dual exhausts that may be made out of titanium, judging by their pearlescence.

The car’s carbon fiber trim, red pin striping, and the paint color, which looks an awful lot like Stealth Gray, make this look a lot like an updated version of the 2022 Nissan GT-R Nismo. Even the black wheels (with red pin striping) look like the special 20-inch Rays forged aluminum wheels that were offered on that car, whose 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine made 592 hp (441 kW/600 PS) and 481 lb-ft (652 Nm) of torque.

Although Nissan has announced that it will unveil a new GT-R tonight, the company hasn’t really said how new it will be. A new GT-R Nismo Special Edition would certainly make sense, but the car hasn’t been updated since 2017, so a facelift doesn’t seem out of the question, either.

First introduced in 2007, and set to be replaced by a hybrid-powered sports car later this decade, though, it’s unclear how much time and money Nissan will be willing to put into the car to keep it alive for another year.

Despite introducing a Nismo edition in 2022, the GT-R skipped the model year in North America, but continued being sold for the 2023 model year. Now starting at $113,540, the base version currently makes 565 hp (421 kW/573 PS) and 467 lb-ft (633 Nm).

One way or another, the 2024 Nissan GT-R will be unveiled tonight at 8:00 p.m. EST, at the 2023 Tokyo Auto Salon. You can watch the introduction live in the video below.
