Very recently, we asked you all what the greatest performance sedan to ever come out of America was. There are a number of excellent options to choose from and a few controversial ones. Here’s a short list of the cars that you all think deserve the crown as the best American performance sedan of all time.

First, let’s talk about the honorable mentions and the controversies. The Chevrolet Impala SS, the Chrysler 300 SRT8, and the Mercury Marauder all made the list. The Lucid Air Sapphire and the Ford Taurus SHO both received votes and attention too.

In fact, the original SHO with its Yamaha V6 garnered the most upvotes (9) than any other individual comment on its own. And that actually leads into the controversy quite well. The controversy swirls around what actually is or isn’t an American performance sedan. We specifically called out the Dodge Charger Hellcat and the Chevrolet SS but both have questionable qualifications. That’s because they’re not actually all-American but frankly, we don’t care, we think they’re awesome.

The cars that many of you agreed on are objectively awesome too. For one thing, the Cadillac CTS-V is a monster that deserves a lot of love. The first gen was good but as Black Panther puts it, the second generation put Mercedes, BMW, and Audi on notice.

In fact, we think late model Cadillac performance sedans sort of cannibalized one another in this QOTD. Ben nominated the CT6-V Blackwing, Ryan and Six Thousand Times mentioned the CT5-V Blackwing, ScottaHemi and The Guy Formerly Known as 22 both mention the ATS-V.

Surprisingly, the Tesla Model S only got a few upvotes despite a great argument from Geo Evans: “How crazy is it that you can write a check (or finance) for a full size sedan that will get you 1000hp+, that you can drive everyday, take out to the track and will beat most vehicles in a drag race.”
