70 years ago, Matchbox sprung into existence after the school Jack Odell’s daughter was attending would only allow students to have toys that were small enough to fit inside a matchbox.  As a result, he created a miniature steam roller and the rest is history.

Matchbox is now marking the occasion with a series of  limited edition vehicles that celebrate their history of creating “highly detailed and realistic vehicles” that have entertained kids for decades.

The company didn’t go into specifics, but said they’ll be offering “seven different assortments across the Matchbox range.”  All of these appear to feature “special platinum details” as well as orange accents and 70th anniversary edition badging.

Matchbox didn’t provide a detailed vehicle list, but we can see an assortment of different models including the Chevrolet Corvette, Porsche 911, GMC Hummer EV, and Mazda MX-30.  Fans can also look forward to the Jaguar D-Type, Mercedes-AMG G63 6×6, and Ford Mustang Convertible.  We can also see a Jeep Forward Control, Nissan GT-R, and Ford F-150 Lightning.

Individual die-cast vehicles will be introduced throughout the year and some of them will be made from recycled zinc.  The latter move is part of Mattel’s effort to bring sustainability to the die-cast segment and it builds on their vision to make all toys and packaging from 100% recycled, recyclable or bio-based plastic materials by 2030.
