Fake exhaust pipes are a usual sight on vehicles from the likes of Mercedes or Audi, but a brand like Ferrari has never been guilty of this offense. While this is true for production models, one of Ferrari’s prototypes was spotted in Italy with six tailpipes, four of which are obviously fake.

The single photo of the unconventional model was uploaded on Instagram by spy photographer Walter Vayr. The pictured prototype is wearing the bodywork of the Ferrari 812 Superfast but the lower portion of the rear bumper is not exactly stock, as it has three tailpipes on each side.

Ferrari 812 Prototype Spied With Some Weird Fake Exhaust Pipes

It appears that the model is a prototype of the Ferrari 812 Competizione, using the 812 Superfast body for camouflage. This explains why it combines the dual tailpipes of the former, with the quad tailpipes of the latter. All of them have a round shape, although their diameter is different.

When we first spotted prototypes of the limited-production V12-powered supercar back in 2020, Ferrari engineers had cleverly hidden the extra exhaust pipes behind louvers on the lower portion of the bumper. Those panels have now been removed, resulting in a design that could only be offered by a tacky tuner.

We don’t know if the spy shot is recent, but Ferrari would have no reason to keep testing the prototype as the production of the 812 Competizione is already well underway with the first examples having been delivered to their respectful owners. The Maranello brand is already working on the successor of the 812 as proven by sightings of V12-powered prototypes with Roma-style body panels and a significantly longer wheelbase.
