TL;DR

  • The Google Photos app is crashing for many people on iOS.
  • The issue seems to occur after the iOS 16.3.1 update.

Google has brought plenty of services to Apple’s iOS platform, and Google Photos is no different. However, it looks like the latest iOS update may have broken the Google Photos app for loads of people.

The Verge reports that the Google Photos app crashes immediately for some people after launching on iPhones and iPads running iOS 16.3.1. The issue doesn’t seem to affect every device running this latest update, but it still seems to affect loads of users.

There’s no word on a timeline for a fix, but a Google representative told the outlet that the company is “in the process of rolling out a fix in version 6.23.1 of the Google Photos app.” The Google Photos Twitter account has also confirmed that the team is “working quickly” to solve the problem.

Needless to say, you might want to hold off on updating to iOS 16.3.1 if you’re reliant on Google Photos. Otherwise, affected users will just have to wait for Google’s fix.
