Hershey Debuts Plant-Based Peanut Butter Cups and Chocolate Bars – CNET

A little news for vegans and vegan-curious consumers: You can soon try plant-based Reese’s peanut butter cups and Hershey’s chocolate bars. Citing a rise in the popularity of plant-based alternatives, the Hershey Co. launched two such sweets on Tuesday, with nationwide availability set to arrive this spring. 

Hershey’s introduced a plant-based Extra Creamy with Almonds and Sea Salt chocolate bar, alongside Reese’s plant-based peanut butter cups. The cups should be available this month, with the chocolate bar arriving in April. 

The market for plant-based foods is expected to expand as consumers become more aware of the environmental and health impacts of frequently consuming meat and dairy products.

Sales of plant-based food product at grocery stores have grown three times as fast as overall food sales, according to a 2021 report from nonprofit think tank the Good Food Institute. The retail market for plant-based foods rose to $7.4 billion in 2021, up from $6.9 billion in 2020, the institute reported.

The plant-based market is expected to reach over $93 billion by 2028, according to a report by Brand Essence Market Research
