Maserati has released a host of new images of the Maserati MC20 GT2 after the car made its track debut at the Autodromo di Varano de’ Melegari in Italy.

Set to make its competitive debut at the 24 Hours of Spa in June, the MC20 GT2 has undergone a multitude of modifications to get it ready to go racing. It is powered by the same 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged Nettuno V6 as the road car but the car manufacturer has not yet announced horsepower or torque figures for it.

The bodywork of the MC20 GT2 is made from full composite panels designed to significantly increase downforce over the production car. Key upgrades include a new front splitter, wider fenders, a giant rear diffuser, and an adjustable rear wing. All of the bodywork has also been fitted with quick releases to ensure parts can be quickly and easily replaced.

Maserati Gets One Step Closer To Racing The MC20 GT2

Coupled with the engine is a six-speed sequential racing transmission with paddle shifters and an electrical rotary gearshift actuator. Maserati has also equipped the race car with adjustable shock absorbers and adjustable anti-roll bars at both the front and rear. There is also a fully-electric power steering system, adjustable ABS, a complex data acquisition system, an FIA-homologated roll cage, and tire pressure monitoring.

The race car has also been equipped with center-lock 18-inch aluminum wheels clad in slick tires.

“The first few days are always quite unique, even more so for me when I was fortunate enough to bring Maserati to success at the GT1 World Championships, where I won four titles,” Maserati test driver Andrea Bertolini described in a statement. “We are now about to get back on track with yet another wonderful car. We’ve done lots of trial runs and early feedback is positive. Getting back behind the wheel of a GT was really exciting, and I could see everyone involved was very enthusiastic and motivated. We’ve focused on developing a product that not only stands up to its competitors but is also an ideal car for our gentleman drivers in terms of handling, comfort and performance.”
