Volkswagen of America has quietly revealed the long-wheelbase ID. Buzz will be unveiled in California this summer.
The announcement was made over the weekend at the Amelia Concours d’Elegance, where Volkswagen displayed the Euro-spec electric van and there was a class celebrating the Type 2 Transporter. A 1951 Transporter was named best-in-class and it featured a two-tone exterior with 15 windows as well as a 25 hp (19 kW / 25 PS) engine.
Getting back to the ID. Buzz, the long-wheelbase variant was recently spied undisguised. It looks virtually identical to the standard model, but features longer rear doors and a more accommodating cabin with third-row seats.

There’s no word on U.S. specifications at this point, but the European ID. Buzz rides on the MEB platform and features an 82 kWh battery pack. The latter feeds a rear-mounted electric motor that develops 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 229 lb-ft (310 Nm) of torque. This setup enables the van to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 10.2 seconds and hit a top speed of 90 mph (145 km/h). The model also has a WLTP range of up to 263 miles (423 km).
That being said, Volkswagen has already confirmed plans for additional variants. Details are sparse, but the company has previously said “more battery versions with various power output levels are expected to follow in 2023.”

We’ll learn more details this summer, but Volkswagen has previously confirmed the van won’t be launched until 2024.
