Do these spy shots look familiar? If so, you might recall our initial report that our spies had caught the new Peugeot E-5008 crossover. But it seems that the disguised vehicle played a bit of a shell game with us, and we fell for it. Mea culpa! This is, in fact, our very first glimpse of the 2024 Renault Scenic E-Tech, and it appears to be a significant vehicle for the French automaker.

The upcoming fifth-generation Scenic is expected to draw design inspiration from the Renault Vision Scenic Concept that was presented in 2022. Comparing the two, it looks like much of the styling from the concept will make its way into the production model which certainly has us excited. Unfortunately, the trippy black and white camouflage of this prototype hides most of its design.

Indeed, this prototype has been so well disguised that our spy photographers initially thought it was a Peugeot. Elements that give away its true identity include the camouflage design itself that has been used by other Renault prototypes, as well as the shape of the LED headlights. The headlights will be a welcome departure from the lobster-claw-shaped lights currently used by numerous Renault models, including the Megane E-Tech and Austral.

While not visible on this prototype, the new Scenic will rock an edgy front bumper characterized by straight lines and sharp angles. It will adopt quite an aggressive shape and will certainly stand out on the open road.

Numerous other design elements will make the Scenic stand out. These will include wheels with an eye-catching new design and some LED taillights.

The new Scenic will be sold solely as an EV, hence why it will adopt the same E-Tech nameplate as the new-age Megane. It will be underpinned by the same CMF-EV architecture as the Megane E-Tech and Nissan Ariya and will allegedly be offered in FWD and AWD guises with single and dual electric motors. It is expected to have a battery with a capacity of around 90 kWh.

Sources suggest that Renault plans to release the new Scenic E-Tech for the 2024 model year, which means we may see its official debut by the end of this year.
