Nissan is getting ready to electrify the GT-R nameplate but before an all-new hybrid generation arrives, there’s a pretty interesting project on the horizon in the form of an “R32 EV”.

Nissan uploaded a short video on YouTube and Twitter, showcasing the rear end of an R32 GT-R bringing its turbocharged 6-cylinder engine to life before the words “R32 EV” appear on the screen. Nissan even launched a mini-website suggesting there will be more teasers like this in the near future.

The idea came from a Nissan engineer who joined Nissan because of his admiration for this particular model. According to the description, he said: “I want to build a more exciting car by adding the latest electrification technology that I am involved with to my favorite car”.

Our mind goes to Nissan’s dual-motor setup which can be found in the Ariya and sounds like a fitting choice for the GT-R. The original R32 produced 276 hp (206 kW / 280 PS), while the most powerful variant of the Nissan Ariya makes 389 hp (290 kW / 394 PS). Of course, Nissan could tweak the dual electric motors to produce even more power for their latest electric show car.

Nissan produced a total of 43,937 units of the GT-R R32 between 1989 and 1994, so the sacrifice of one example is not as dramatic as suggested by a number of fans in the comments below the video. The Nissan GT-R R32 EV will most likely remain a one-off electromod, showing what is possible when you combine legendary cars with modern tech but we’re not that sure that fans would want to swap the legendary RB26 engine for a pair of electric ones, even if they offer more power.
