Bentley’s supplier may have installed the brackets that hold the entertainment systems for rear passengers backward. That could allow the display to fall out and, in the event of an accident, could be dangerous, so the automaker has decided to launch a recall.

Fortunately, Bentley is only actually aware of one case of this happening, and it was caught before the car made it to its new owner. The Flying Spur’s issue was first noticed on September 27, 2022, by a dealer who was performing a pre-delivery inspection.

They noticed that something was amiss with the retention bracket, which is located in the back of the front seats. The dealer notified Bentley, who got in touch with the appropriate supplier, Linecross Composites Ltd, and launched an investigation into the matter.

It seems that, in some cases, the bracket that holds the rear display in place can be installed incorrectly. While the screen would not lock into place correctly if the piece is upside down, it could lock into place if it is backward.

In that case, the Flying Spur‘s rear seat passenger would be unlikely to notice that anything was amiss. However, in the event of an accident, the screen would not be held in place as firmly as intended and could become a danger to the vehicle’s occupants.

So far, the one example that was caught in the pre-delivery inspection is the only one that has been found in the field. However, the nature of the issue makes it difficult to know for certain whether it is the only one out there, so Bentley is initiating a recall campaign that encompasses 1,659 Flying Spurs from the 2021-2023 model years.

The automaker plans to start getting in touch with owners on June 5, and they will be asked to bring their vehicles to an authorized retailer. There, the brackets in both seats will be checked, and any found to have been installed incorrectly will be reinstalled correctly. That should take about one hour per seat, but the work will be completed at no cost to the owner.
