Let this video of a 2024 Ford Mustang drifting be your official reminder that this Sunday is Mother’s Day. It might not be too late to buy your mom a card, even though it’s probably too late to set up a track day to go drifting with your mom, like pro driver Vaughn Gittin Jr did here.

Joining Mustang Chief Engineer Laurie Transou, and her daughter Claire, Vaughn and Dawn find out just how many tools the 2024 Ford Mustang has to turn even a supportive amateur into a drift monster.

In the video, Claire and Dawn are taught to use launch control, the electronic drift brake, and line lock. And with all due respect to Mrs. Gittin, who does a good job, Transou’s daughter seems to have a real aptitude for sliding, quickly performing some smoky burnouts on the skid pad.

“One of the greatest joys of motherhood is teaching our children, sharing new experiences with them and watching them grow,” said the elder Transou. “Mustang has the ability to make family bonds stronger by delivering fun experiences families can have together. Mustang has brought Vaughn together with his mom and me together with my daughter for an empowering and incredibly fun day!”

For good measure, Vaughn shows off what the new Mustang can do with a professional drifter at the wheel. On their way to meeting the women, he drifts his car around the parked Mustang that Transou drove to the event.

That the 2024 Mustang is capable of drifting should come as no surprise. As ever, the rear-wheel-drive sports car is powered by either a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine or a 5.0-liter V8. In the Mustang GT, the engine will make 460 hp (344 kW/466 PS) and 420 lb-ft (569 Nm) of torque. In the new Mustang Dark Horse, on the other hand, it makes 500 hp (373 kW/507 PS). Sales of the 2024 Ford Mustang are set to start this summer.
