The Cupra Leon Sports Tourer might be up for a mid-lifecycle update soon, but JE Design presented a comprehensive tuning kit for the outgoing model including visual and mechanical modifications bringing it closer to more expensive performance-focused estates.

The German tuner that specializes in the Spanish brand took on the most powerful AWD version of the Cupra Leon which is exclusively available in the more practical estate (Sports Tourer) bodystyle. While the stock model is already looking sportier than the Seat equivalent thanks to a number of Cupra-specific details, JE Design’s Widebody RS kit takes it a step further.

At the front, the Leon got a new three-piece splitter that can be adjusted in race or road settings. The splitter is connected to aerodynamic flaps on the sides of the front bumper. Those are joined by matching extensions on both axles, merging with the side sills and the wider front and rear fender add-ons. According to JE Design, the flaps improve the airflow through the brake ducts and create an air curtain around the vehicle.

The tail got a larger double roof spoiler, decorative bumper trim pieces, and a new diffuser that houses the exhaust pipes. The latter feature dual oval or quad round outlets finished in black or copper, and can benefit from an in-house developed flap exhaust system. Finally, there is a stingray-shaped trim on the front fenders, mirroring the sculpted profile of the Leon.

The estate rides on a new set of 19-inch BBS CH-R alloy wheels shod in 255/30 R19 tires although JE Design is also offering other options. The new shoes are combined with a lowered suspension bringing the Cupra closer to the ground by 20 mm (0.8 inches) at the front and by 10 mm (0.4 inches) at the rear, while retaining the functionality of the electronic DCC chassis control.

The turbocharged 2.0-liter TSI four-cylinder engine of the Cupra Leon produces 306 hp (228 kW / 310 PS) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) in stock form, but JE Design increased it to a healthier 365 hp (272 kW / 370 PS) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft). This is more than the mechanically-related VW Golf R and the Audi S3 and identical to ABT‘s own Cupra Leon ST. Power is transmitted to all four wheels through a seven-speed DSG automatic and Cupra’s 4Drive system.

The modified Cupra Leon Sports Tourer was exhibited at JE Design’s booth at the Tuning World Bodensee event between May 18 and 21. A visit to the tuner’s online shop reveals that the bodykit alone costs €5,199 ($5,624), with the lowered suspension, aftermarket wheels, and power boost being sold separately.
