Making cars is like making movies. While we’re busy getting excited over something we’re seeing for the first time, the production team is already halfway through the development of the next project.

In this case, we’re talking about the 2025 BMW M2 CS, which BMW M engineers are busy finessing while most people with new M2 orders are still waiting to get the keys to their cars.

After the success of the last M2 CS, it was perfectly logical to presume that BMW would be working on a successor; we first caught sight of a prototype parked in the lot at BMW M’s garage just outside the Nurburgring at the beginning of May.

2025 BMW M2 CS Spied Out On The Roads Wearing CSL Wheels

Last time out the CS was wearing regular 19-inch front and 20-inch rear 930M-code alloys that come as standard on the stock M2. But for this outing, it’s swapped them for what looks like the 20-inch 827M rims that come with the M4 CSL.

The prototype also has a ducktail spoiler molded into the trunk lid, just like the hottest M4. Further down the tail we can see the M trademark quad exhaust setup poking out from between the fins of a rear diffuser.

In the standard M2, the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 is rated at 453 hp (338 kW / 459 PS) and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque, but the CS is expected to make 500-520 hp from an upgraded motor. An obvious possibility is that BMW might give the CS the 503 hp (510 PS) six from the M3 and M4 Competition. The big question is whether BMW will offer a more powerful engine with a manual transmission option when the CS is unveiled, probably in 2024. Here’s hoping.
