While there are many genres of unique classics out there, one of the kookiest and, therefore, most fun, is the concept car that wasn’t destroyed. The latest example of this genre is for sale in Alberta, Canada.
A seller in Canada claims to be offering the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche Base Camp LT, which was built before the truck went into production, and made appearances at auto shows around the world, including that year’s SEMA show.
That’s all true, and this certainly looks like that truck, but we aren’t in a position to fully certify that this is the real deal. However, it certainly appears that the concept truck somehow escaped destruction, and documents suggesting that it was being in private hands date back to at least 2006, when it was sold for $20,900 at Barrett-Jackson’s Palm Beach auction. So it’s certainly believable that this is the real deal.

Why Chevrolet allowed the concept to avoid destruction (a normal practice with concept vehicles that don’t necessarily live up to federal regulations) is not clear. We’re happy they did, though.
This fascinating concept has a bunch of really cool, really retro features. These include a custom tailgate with a built-in GPS, stove, sink, and cutting board, Nokia phones in the front and back (though they don’t actually function), Bose speakers, a Magovox in-dash computer, heated and cooled cupholders, and a special Coleman tent that is the only one of its kind in existence.

The deeply 2000s yellow paint also continues inside, where panels in the upholstery (and the Nokia phones) borrow the color to give the truck a sense of cohesion. Frankly, it’s a cool truck, and it presaged so much of what was to come in the automotive industry.
Although it is registered for the road up in Alberta, the Avalanche Base Camp LT has just 1,956 miles (3,148 km) on the odometer, and has been treated as more of a showpiece than a daily driver. The seller is auctioning it off on eBay, with a starting bid of $37,034 ($50,000 CAD). However, another sale page that is apparently of the same vehicle can also be found on Hemmings, where the asking price is $125,000.
