American customers interested in the upcoming Alfa Romeo Tonale have a lot of valuable information to go over today. That’s because the automaker revealed the plug-in hybrid crossover’s official EPA fuel economy ratings.

According to American officials, the Tonale will be able to go 33 miles (53 km) on electric power alone, and it gets an MPGe rating of 77. Meanwhile, its four-cylinder engine gets a combined fuel economy rating of 29 MPG, and the crossover will be able to go up to 360 miles (579 km) with a full tank and battery.

The electric range “will allow many of our customers to drive their daily commutes without tapping the fuel tank,” said Larry Dominique, SVP, head of Alfa Romeo North America. “The Alfa Romeo Tonale represents the beginning of our transformation to greater electrification while staying true to the performance characteristics our customers expect from the brand.”

2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale Lands In The US, Gets 29 MPG And Can Travel 33 Miles On Battery Power

Alfa Romeo calls the Tonale the most efficient vehicle in its segment, thanks to its 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. On its own, it makes 180 hp (134 kW/182 PS), but with the help of an electric motor on the rear axle and a 15.5 kWh battery pack, the powertrain has a total system output of 285 hp (212 kW/289 PS) and 347 lb-ft (470 Nm) of torque. That should allow the Tonale to reach 60 mph (96 km/h) from a standstill in less than six seconds, and hit a top speed of 130 mph (209 km/h).

For American consumers, Alfa Romeo will offer the Tonale in three trim levels: Sprint, Ti, and Veloce. Prices start $44,995 ($1,595 destination charge included) for the Sprint, rising to $46,590 for the Ti, and finally to $49,090 for the Veloce trim.

Despite being a plug-in hybrid, the Tonale will not be eligible for American federal tax credits, because it is made at Stellantis’ Pomigliano d’Arco assembly plant in Italy. However, American-bound models are already being shipped to dealers, Alfa Romeo says.
