Caterham is known for the iconic Seven lightweight sportscar and all of its different variations over the years, but the UK-based brand will soon unveil an entirely different beast. Called Project V, Caterham’s latest project is a fully electric sportscar concept that will be fully unveiled on July 12.

The debut date of the new concept coincides with Caterham’s 50th anniversary. The countdown page suggests that the Project V will be “a bold new design”, with “driver-focused, lightweight, and fun to drive” characteristics which are traditionally associated with Caterham models. More importantly, the automaker describes Project V as a “statement of intent”, hinting at a future production model.

Autocar reports that the model will be “entirely unrelated” to the Caterham Seven, sitting on a new steel spaceframe chassis. Responsible for the styling is Caterham’s new design boss Anthony Jannarelly, whose past work includes the W Motors Lykan Hypersport and the self-named Janarelly Design-1. For the new Caterham, the French designer collaborated with Italdesign, creating a two-door sportscar with a short bonnet, plenty of curves, and mid-engined proportions.

At this point, there is no information on the specifications of the electric powertrain. The recently revealed Caterham EV Seven concept came with a 240 hp (178 kW / 243 PS) electric motor and a sophisticated immersion-cooled 51 kWh (40 kWh usable) battery pack. This one is based on the production Seven minus the combustion engine and it can drive for 20 minutes, charge for 15 minutes, and then drive for another 20 minutes. It remains to be seen if the Caterham Project V will bring more power and better driving range.
