Nissan has revealed an improper seal can trigger a short-circuit and all kinds of serious issues in affected models

Owners of certain 2022 Nissan Sentra are soon going to get some bad news from the car manufacturer following the revelation that 230 units are being recalled in the United States with a seal fault.
Nissan has revealed that impacted Sentra models have a missing or improper seal in the driver-side cowl area. This means that during periods of heavy rain, there’s a chance that water could intrude through the front left cowl area onto the driver’s side floor. This could lead to an increased risk of corrosion of electrical components.
A recall notice issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notes that if corrosion develops in the main body harness to engine room harness connector, it could trigger an electrical short circuit and/or thermal damage to the connector.

If a short circuit is to occur, Nissan notes that the washer motor, VDC, tail lamps, hazard lights, reverse lights, and airbags may be inoperative. Other potential issues include the tail lamps remaining illuminated, a malfunction indicator light being displayed, the engine not starting, acceleration issues, or owners may even be able to start the engine or change gears without applying the brake pedal. A fire could also be triggered by the short circuit.
All 230 Nissan Sentra models involved in the recall were manufactured between September 21, 2022 and September 27, 2022.

Nissan says it started to notify dealerships of the recall on June 14, 2023 and that all owners will be informed from July 26. To resolve the issue, dealers will reseal the driver-side cowl seal and inspect the main body harness to engine room harness connector for signs of moisture or corrosion. The main harness and engine room harness will be replaced if needed.
