MINI introduced the 2024 John Cooper Works 1TO6 Edition last month and now the automaker has announced the hatch is coming to America with a rather hefty price tag.

The latter is impossible to ignore as the 1TO6 Edition starts at $45,300 before a $995 destination charge. That’s pretty steep considering the Volkswagen Golf R starts at $44,740 and the BMW M240i Coupe begins at $48,900. The special edition even makes the recently launched Acura Integra Type S seem somewhat reasonable at $50,800.

While customers will likely experience sticker shock, MINI noted the special edition is based on the JCW 2-Door Hardtop in range-topping Iconic trim. That model starts at $42,800 so the special edition only carries a $2,500 premium.

So what does $46,295 get you? What could be one of the last MINIs to be equipped with a manual transmission. However, that isn’t set in stone even though the special edition “celebrates the purest form of driving fun.”

Besides the DIY gearbox, the model has a Midnight Black Metallic exterior with a grey racing stripe and special badging. They’re joined by Piano Black accents and 18-inch wheels featuring a Jet Black finish.

The special touches continue in the cabin where drivers will find “One of 999” messaging. A closer inspection also reveals 1TO6 Edition graphics on the door sill plates, floor mats, and dashboard. They’re joined by a sport steering wheel and an 8.8-inch infotainment system. Since the special edition is based on the Iconic trim, buyers should also find heated sport seats, a wireless smartphone charger, a head-up display, and a 12-speaker Harman/Kardon audio system.

Motivation is provided by a familiar turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 228 hp (170 kW / 231 PS) and 236 lb-ft (320 Nm) of torque. It’s obviously connected to a six-speed manual, which sends power to the front wheels.

The special edition will go into production in the third quarter and MINI USA is currently accepting pre-orders on a “first come, first served basis” with a $500 deposit.
