Mazda Recalls 18 CX-90s Because Multiple Front Suspension Parts Might Fall Off

Japanese automaker Mazda is recalling 18 of its new 2024 CX-90 SUVs. It’s concerned that vital front suspension and steering components might come undone. The solution is a simple but vital one that includes torquing the bolts and nuts down to proper specification.

Specifically, it’s concerned with four main fasteners. A nut and bolt that connects the upper control arm and the steering knuckle, then a bolt that fixes in place the intermediate shaft and steering gear, and finally, another bolt between the ABS wheel-speed sensor to the steering knuckle. It says that they may not be torqued properly and need checking.

Mazda says that it actually found out about this issue due to two field reports out of Japan. Each experienced a separation of the front upper control arm and the steering knuckle. Clearly, that’s not optimal so Mazda launched an investigation.

By June 13th of this year, it identified the 18 potentially affected vehicles and decided to recall them. It says that it’ll directly contact owners and notify them about the concern and instruct them to take their CX-90 to a local dealership. It’ll also send letters to customers to ensure it contacts them. There’s no indication of how many of the 18 in the recall population are in customers’ hands.

Once an affected SUV makes it to the dealer, the service technician will check the torque on the affected parts and ensure that it’s correct. As of the filing with the NHTSA, Mazda says it’s unaware of any injuries or accidents associated with this recall. Those with a 2024 CX-90 that are concerned that their vehicle might be included in the recall can contact Mazda directly or their local dealer or the NHTSA. The recall campaign number is 23V-429.
