Opel is the latest brand to redesign its emblem, in preparation for its EV-only era. The new Blitz comes less than three years after the previous update, with mild changes giving it a sharper and more modern look. The first production model to bear the revised emblem will arrive in 2024, but a mysterious unveiling was announced for September 2023 at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich.

Changes compared to the previous and already minimalist emblem include a thinner ring and a line that separates the two halves of the main thunder graphic. The new Blitz (German for lighting bolt) will continue sitting at the center of Opel’s compass and playing an integral role in the Vizor face of future models.

Opel Gives Blitz Badge A Facelift, Promises Surprise Reveal For Munich Show

The automaker didn’t reveal the name of the first production vehicle that will incorporate its revised logo but confirmed it will arrive in 2024. In any case, the emblem will gradually roll out across the entire product portfolio in the coming years, through either facelifts or new models.

Before that happens, there is a “surprise” unveiling planned for the IAA Mobility in Munich, with CEO Floria Huettl promising that visitors “will be thrilled”. Judging from the official photos accompanying the press release, Opel might introduce its new and illuminated emblem in a concept. Could this be a preview of the upcoming Manta? We will learn more on September 5 in Munich.

Opel wants to become an EV-only brand in Europe by 2028 and will have 15 electrified models in its range before the end of 2023.
