Though we’ve yet to have the pleasure ourselves, we imagine picking up your first ever brand new Ferrari after waiting a year and a half to take delivery must be an incredibly special experience, and one that throws up a lot of conflicting emotions.

While your head is telling you to take it easy, and treat the car with kid gloves until you’ve got a few gentle miles on the motor and become used to the way it drives, your heart is goading you into giving the thing death the moment you leave the showroom. YouTuber Jake Paul started out in head-mode when he collected his 296 GTB, but quickly let his heart take over. And the hybrid Ferrari didn’t like it, the baby exotic suffering a minor meltdown with the odometer showing just 56 miles (90 km).

After testing out the 819 hp (830 PS) 296’s 2.9-second zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) straight line performance, Paul decamps to a parking lot to pull off some donuts. And we’re not just talking about a couple of easy circles, these were fairly brutal donuts where the little turbo V6 was working its butt off and the tires  – and everything else, as it turns out – were struggling to stay in the game.

It’s not long before the car’s digital gauge cluster throws up a bunch of warning lights telling Paul that the 296’s headlights, the manettino driving mode selector, AVH (auto parking brake) and ESC (which Paul keeps calling an ‘escape’ system, maybe he thinks it’s an ejector seat?) had all thrown in the towel. Quite why the headlights gave up the ghost after a few donuts we’re not sure, but the message was clear: go to dealer.

The Ferrari is still fully drivable after the donut session, so it seems like it only suffered an electrical meltdown rather than any mechanical damage. And at least Paul had a spare set of wheels to fall back on. In the second half of the video he reveals his other new automotive purchase, a 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner famous for its huge retractable hardtop.
