Opel revealed that the promised “surprise unveiling” in the upcoming IAA Mobility Show in Munich is a concept car bearing the Experimental nameplate. The new concept will be the first to introduce Opel’s revised Blitz emblem, serving as an influence for future production vehicles.

Opel CEO, Florian Huettle, described the Experimental concept as “a symbol for what we want to achieve with the Opel brand”. The name is a nod to the 1965 Experimental GT which was the first design study by a European automaker. A single teaser photo shows the illuminated “Experimental” lettering that appears to be positioned on the pronounced side sills above a carbon-fiber skirt.

Opel Teases Experimental Concept That Will Wear The New Blitz Emblem
The revised Blitz emblem was recently previewed with LED stripes forming the Opel Compass.

The Experimental concept will be the first vehicle to wear the simplified Blitz emblem, likely surrounded by cross-shaped LED strips forming the Opel Compass styling feature. Overall, the new concept will showcase the latest evolution of Opel’s “Bold and Pure” styling language which was originally introduced by the 2018 Opel GT X Experimental concept.

The company was coy on details about the bodystyle or the powertrain type of the concept. However, the “Greenovation” script on the bodywork hints at an eco-friendly character that could be supported by Stellantis-sourced fully electric underpinnings.

We will learn more about the Opel Experimental concept in the coming weeks as the company promised to release further details before the full unveil at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich (Sept 5-10, 2023).
