The Alfa Romeo Tonale family in Australia is set to grow with confirmation that the Plug-In Hybrid Q4 variant will land on local shores in October.

Powering the plug-in version of the Tonale is a 1.3-liter turbocharged MultiAir four-cylinder engine producing 132 kW (177 hp) and coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels. Additional grunt is then provided by a 90 kW (121 hp) battery at the rear axle that also churns out an impressive 250 Nm (184 lb-ft). The SUV delivers a combined 208 kW (279 hp) and thanks to the 15.5 kWh lithium-ion battery, can travel up to 60 km (37 miles) on electric power alone.

Alfa Romeo Australia will sell the Tonale Plug-In Hybrid Q4 in just a single configuration known as the Veloce. This well-equipped model starts from AU$77,500 ($51,300) and comes standard with automatic full LED Matrix headlights, a dark front grille, privacy glass, Brembo red brake calipers, 19-inch Diamond Cut alloy wheels, and folding wing mirrors painted in gloss black.

Locals will also be pleased to find that the interior of the SUV is very plush considering its starting price. For example, there is a sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, 10.25-inch infotainment display with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 14-speaker 465-watt Harmon Kardon audio system. It also includes customizable ambient lighting and perforated black leather-accented seats.

Safety features come aplenty and include front, rear and side parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with stop & go, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, driver behavior warning, and active blind spot assist with rear cross-traffic alert.

Shoppers can have their Tonale Plug-In Hybrid Q4 finished in either Alfa White, Alfa Red, Alfa Black, Vesuvio Grey Metallic, Misano Blue Metallic, or Montreal Green. The only available options are AU$1,500 ($994) 20-inch wheels, AU$1,600 ($1,060) premium paint, and AU$2,500 ($1,657) special premium paint.
