MINI dropped photos of the electric Cooper S in April and now we’re getting a glimpse at the upcoming John Cooper Works (JCW) variant.
Spied wearing swirly camouflage, the prototype doesn’t look too remarkable at first glance. However, a closer inspection reveals a unique front bumper and a sportier intake. The latter features a horizontal bar as well as vertical elements in the center.
The changes continue out back as the high-performance variant is distinguished by a sizable, wraparound spoiler. We can also see a lightly revised rear bumper, which is accompanied by an aggressive diffuser.

Other highlights include flush-mounted door handles and stylish two-tone wheels. They’re joined by triangular taillights with Union Jack-inspired graphics.

Spy photographers didn’t get a look inside, but it should echo the regular model which has a ‘cluster-less’ design. It sees the functions of a digital instrument cluster incorporated into a clock-like display that measures 9.4 inches (240 mm) in diameter. It’s slated to be broken up into sections with the top acting as the instrument cluster, the middle focused on infotainment, and the bottom dedicated to climate controls and short cuts.
Performance specifications are a mystery, but the company has already confirmed the Cooper E will have a 40.7 kWh battery and an output of 181 hp (135 kW / 184 PS). The Cooper SE will sport a larger 54.2 kWh battery and a more powerful electric motor developing 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS).
The JCW EV will undoubtedly build on that and be even more powerful. However, it could come at a cost in terms of both range and price. That remains to be seen, but the regular variants will be able to travel between 186 and 249 miles (300 and 400 km) on a single charge.
