Accidents caused by idiots running red lights are all too common, but in this jaw-dropping video we get a double dose of stupidity. It shows two drivers coming from different directions who both cross an intersection when they should have been stationary.

The smash happened in La Plata, a city in Buenos Aires Province, and involved a Jeep Renegade SUV and small Peugeot 206 hatchback. But caught quite literally in the middle was a woman who was crossing the road at a designated crossing point and very nearly, well, crossed to the other side, if you know what we mean.

The two vehicles collide and it looks for moment like the pedestrian is about to be taken out by both of them, but then the force of the impact causes the two cars to bounce off each other sending them around the woman who has no time to react. And that’s just as well because if she’d run in either direction she’d probably be dead. Instead she remains almost perfectly still and is only hit with some small bits of the vehicles sent flying by the impact.

Though both drivers were in the wrong, the Jeep driver is the bigger culprit because he shoots straight across the intersection when his light is clearly red and has been that way for some time. The Peugeot’s light only turns to red a second before he enters the intersection, but that’s still no excuse because these lights also have an amber ‘stop’ light before the red, which would have given him plenty of warning. And since we’re moralizing, it’s worth pointing out that the woman’s crosswalk light also appears to be on red, so it seems she shouldn’t have been there anyway.

But she certainly didn’t deserve to be squished for that infraction. Fortunately, authorities reported that all three parties were physically unharmed in the accident, which is more than you can say for the two vehicles.
