Classic Porsche 911s typically go for a pretty penny but this ‘remastered’ Gunther Werks 993 is a different beast altogether. It packs a naturally aspirated air-cooled 4.0-liter flat-six, about 400 hp (298 kW), and less than 50 miles on the odometer. It’s one of just 25 in existence and it can be yours… for somewhere in the neighborhood of seven figures.

The 993 generation of the 911 was the last of the air-cooled variety and for that and many other reasons, it holds a special in the heart of many enthusiasts. This Gunther Werks is in layman terms a restomod that incisions what Porsche would be building now if the 993 were still in production.

This particular example dubbed the “Carbon Noire Commission” is unique in more than just its name or powertrain (we’ll come back to that engine though). That name is an ode to the blending of black and brown that natural carbon fiber exhibits. In an effort to harmonize those hues, the paint consists of gold flakes in the pearlescent finish. The interior also sports light brown leather upholstery.

Under the rear decklid you’ll find more leather along with that 4.0-liter engine. It started life as a new 3.6-liter flat six but then spent time at Rothsport Road and Race in Sherwood, Oregon. By the time that builder is done, the engine features forged internals and, of course, more displacement. It also benefits from a custom intake plenum based on that of the 996-generation of the 911 GT3.

It’s worth noting that the waiting list for a similar Gunther Werks commission isn’t months but years long. To that end, this car allows anyone with the desire to own such a car the chance to jump past those in line and drive it sooner.

RM Sotheby’s has a suggested guidance on the car of somewhere between $1,100,000 and $1,300,000. It goes over the auction block during the August 17th weekend in Monterey, California.
