The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is an absolute beast of a thing, pumping out 760 from its 5.2-liter supercharged V8. In a world where select Dodge models churn out over 1,000 hp, it’s easy to forget just how much grunt 760 hp is. In fact, it matches the power rating of the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, a mid-engined supercar.

For as wild as the standard car is, however, Hennessey Performance is never one to sit back and not try to make an already quick car even faster so a couple of years ago, it launched the Venom 1000 upgrade package for the pony car. This newly released video perfectly showcases just how potent the car is.

Do Ford Mustang Shelby GT500s Get Any Better Than Hennessey’s Venom 1000?

Hennessey’s modifications start with a new high-flow air induction upgrade, a supercharger drive pulley upgrade, a supercharger hub assembly upgrade, and an upgraded heavy-duty supercharger belt. In addition to these changes, Hennessey has upgraded the high-flow fuel injectors, fitted anodized billet fuel rails, changed the fuel lines and fittings, and installed both a heavy-duty tensioner and an upgraded intercooler cooling brick. When combined with an air/oil separator system, flex-fuel capability, and a tuned ECU, the car delivers 1,000 hp at 7,000 rpm and 850 lb-ft (1,152 Nm) of torque at 4,800 rpm. Changes are also made to the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to ensure it can handle the extra grunt.

This clip was filmed around the streets at the Hennessey Performance facility in Texas before the driver headed into the Hennessey complex where he could really push the car to its absolute limits. The performance of the car is truly something to behold as it picks up speed at a truly incredible rate. Not only that but it also sounds sensational with an intoxicating supercharger whine and a thumping V8 exhaust note.
