The first of the much-anticipated Neue Klasse models from BMW will enter production in 2025 but thankfully we don’t have to wait too long before we learn more about it. The BMW Vision Neue Klasse concept will premiere at the IAA Mobility in Munich on September 2, closely previewing the forthcoming production model.

The announcement was made earlier today by Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, during the quarterly Conference Call. According to Zipse, September 2 was chosen for the concept‘s debut because it marks “almost 60 years to the day that BMW staked the claim of the Neue Klasse”.

As suggested by its name, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse won’t be a simple design study, but a preview of the next-generation models. Zipse promised that the concept is “close to standard production” and “will be on the roads soon”. The model sounds like a follow-up to the BMW i Vision Dee concept that debuted in CES 2023 introducing a new retro-futuristic style alongside the digital cockpit of tomorrow.

BMW said that the three key action areas for the mobility of tomorrow are electric, digital, and circular. The goal is to combine those into a “coherent overall concept”, resulting in the Vision Neue Klasse. In that context, Zipse said that the new concept will “open up new dimensions in several areas – design, operating concepts, efficiency, and sustainability”.

Zipse described the Neue Klasse as a “mega-project that spans the entire company. It is about nothing less than the future of the BMW brand, the BMW Group, and our portfolio. We are in intensive preparation for this and will continue to make significant investments in relevant future technologies over the next few years.”

Production of the first Neue Klasse EV will commence in 2025 at Debrecen, Hungary, with extra production locations at the central plant in Munich, Germany, and the BMW Brilliance factory in Shenyang, China set to follow in 2026.

BMW has already confirmed 6 upcoming models based on the Neue Klasse EV-dedicated architecture that will debut between 2025 and 2027. The first two of those will be a sedan and an SUV with a similar footprint to the current 3-Series / X3. The new platform promises to bring high-performance electric motors and batteries with significantly improved efficiency, a new UX/UI concept, and a greater focus on sustainability.
